What to Say to Your Tithe Before You Give It Out

I used to just drop my tithe into the offering basket like I was paying a bill… no emotion, no faith, no expectation. Just a religious routine that I did because that’s what good Christians do. But one day, an old woman in my church changed my entire perspective about tithing. She held her envelope with both hands, closed her eyes, and whispered something to it before putting it in the basket. I was curious, so after service I asked her what she was doing.

She smiled and said, “My daughter, your tithe is not just money… it’s a seed that carries your faith, your expectations, and your prayers. Acknowledge God’s Faithfulness First

Thank You for the wisdom You gave me in that difficult situation.” This gratitude shifts my heart from entitlement to appreciation, and it makes my giving feel like worship rather than obligation.

Declare What You Want This Seed to Produce

This is where most people miss it. They give their tithe hoping for a miracle but never specifically tell God what kind of miracle they need. Your tithe is a seed, and every seed produces after its kind. If you don’t declare what you want it to produce, you’re planting without purpose.

I speak directly to my tithe like this: “I’m planting you as a seed for financial breakthrough in my family. I’m sowing you for my business to prosper and expand. I’m releasing you to break every curse of poverty and lack in my bloodline. I declare that as I give this tithe cheerfully, God will open the windows of heaven over my life.”

Sometimes I get very specific about current needs: “I’m sowing this tithe for my rent money to come through. I’m planting this for my children’s school fees to be provided. I’m releasing this seed for that job opportunity to manifest.” There’s power in being specific with God about your expectations.

Break Curses and Limitations Over Your Finances

This part is crucial, especially for us Nigerians who come from families with generational patterns of poverty and struggle. Your tithe has the power to break financial limitations that have been in your bloodline for generations, but you have to speak to those limitations directly.

I declare over my tithe: “By giving this tithe, I break every curse of poverty in my family line. I break the spirit of lack that has tormented my ancestors. I declare that the windows of heaven are open over my life and no devil in hell can close them. Every devourer assigned to my finances is rebuked in Jesus’ name.”

Sometimes I address specific financial challenges: “I break the curse of money coming and going without staying. I break the pattern of almost succeeding but never quite making it. I declare that my money will work for me and multiply in my hands.” These declarations set spiritual boundaries around your finances.

Activate Malachi 3:10-11 Over Your Life

Don’t just quote the scripture… personalize it and make it a living promise over your situation. I hold my tithe and declare: “As I bring this tithe into the storehouse, I’m standing on Your promise in Malachi 3:10. You said to prove You in this, and I’m proving You now. I expect You to open the windows of heaven and pour out blessings that I cannot contain.”

Then I get specific with verse 11: “You promised to rebuke the devourer for my sake. Every force that has been eating up my money, consuming my progress, and stealing my breakthrough is rebuked right now. My fruits will not be destroyed, my efforts will not be wasted, and my investments will prosper.”

I learned to pray this with expectation, not just hope. There’s a difference between hoping something might happen and expecting it to happen because God promised it.

Release Faith for Supernatural Provision

Before I drop my tithe in the basket, I make this final declaration: “I’m not just giving money… I’m releasing my faith for supernatural provision. I expect God to provide for me in ways I’ve never experienced before. I expect doors to open, opportunities to come, and favor to locate me because I honor God with my first fruits.”

Sometimes I add: “This tithe carries my expectation for uncommon breakthroughs, unusual opportunities, and supernatural connections. I will not be broke, I will not lack, and I will not struggle financially because I honor God with my giving.”

The Results Will Shock You

I know this might sound too simple or too good to be true, but I’m telling you from personal experience… when you start speaking prophetically over your tithe before giving it, your financial life will change. Not immediately always, but consistently. God responds to faith-filled giving differently from religious routine giving.

The key is to mean what you say and say what you mean. Don’t just repeat these words mechanically… pray them with genuine faith and expectation. Your tithe becomes a prophetic act when you speak over it with faith.
