Ladies Who Say ‘I Don’t Need a Man’ But Cry Every Valentine’s Day
You know that one friend who always shouts, “Abeg, I don’t need a man… men are stress!” all through the year… but the moment Valentine’s Day lands, she’s on WhatsApp dropping sad quotes about self-love? My sister, we see you o. Strong woman by day, pillow soaker by night.
The truth is, many ladies hide behind that statement because they’ve been hurt before. Saying “I don’t need a man” sounds powerful, like they are in control. But deep inside, almost everyone craves genuine love and companionship. Even the most independent woman wants someone who will check on her, spoil her sometimes, and pray with her.

Valentine’s Day just exposes the gap. Social media will be full of roses, dinner dates, and surprise gifts, and suddenly the “I’m okay on my own” crew start to feel small-small. They’ll laugh it off, but the tears always betray them. Love is not weakness. Wanting someone to share life with doesn’t make you less of a boss babe.
But here’s the balance… needing a man is not the same as depending on one for your entire worth. A woman who knows her value in Christ will enjoy love better because she’s not desperate. Proverbs 31 describes a woman who is strong, wise, and still deeply loved by her husband. Independence is beautiful, but companionship is God’s design.
So next Valentine’s Day, before you post “Men are trash” at 11pm, ask yourself… do you truly not need a man, or are you just scared of being vulnerable again? Because deep down, the tears are already answering the question.
